Research interests:
Janeeca’s research interests center on mental health, health disparities, HIV prevention, and innovative approaches to healthcare. In particular, she is interested in examining how long-acting injectable HIV prevention and treatment strategies, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and antiretroviral therapy (ART), as well as HIV self-testing (HIVST), can improve engagement in HIV prevention and care, particularly among populations disproportionately affected by HIV. I am also interested in understanding mental health and psychological well-being among diverse and underserved populations. Specifically, I hope to examine how stigma, stress, social support, healthcare access, and broader social and structural determinants shape mental health outcomes and engagement with healthcare services. By integrating perspectives from HIV prevention, mental health, and health disparities of research, I hope to identify innovative, accessible, and equitable approaches that address barriers to prevention and care. Through my research journey, I aim to contribute to interventions and evidence-based strategies that promote both HIV prevention and mental health, while addressing the social and structural inequities that contribute to disparities in health outcomes.
